Project Work Efforts
1. Testbed Deployment
Lake Union Deployments
Lake Union is an ideal
underwater experimentation site located in vicinity of University of
Washington campus. In addition to accessibility, we have access to Applied
Physics Lab's (APL's) boats and dock facility for experiments involving a
moving nodes. In addition to APL dock, we have identified two other docks, Pocock Rowing Center(Pocock)and
Seattle Boat Company(SBC.) Please refer to deployment reports for the
particular topology of each expriment.

Summer 2015
We have had three successful deployments in Summer 2015.
- July 30th deployment - testing new UW-Aloha with slight modification in exponential back-off. Data
- Sep 21st deployment- taking base line and repeating test conducted on July 30th, eliminating time synchronization issues to confirm pervious results. Data
- Sep 29th deployment- channel charactetization, modem performance, and delay spread between SBC dock and recivieng node located at Pocock.Data
Hood Canal Deployment
Ocean-TUNE is expected to deploy four testbeds at four different sites to provide diverse coverage of coastal geography and weather in the US. UW will be in charge of deploying one of these testbeds in an area called the Hood Canal, one of the four major basins of Puget Sound in the state of Washington.

One major component of these testbeds will be the AquaSeNT modems. These modems are high-speed orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) acoustic modems. More information on these modems is provided below:
2. MAC Layer Design
UW will be focusing on making improvements to the MAC layer for Ocean-TUNE's underwater network.
