Professor Chuangxin Guo

Chuangxin Guo visited the REALab from August 2012 to October 2012. He is a professor with the College of Electrical Engineering at Zhejiang University (ZJU). He obtained the B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology(HUST), Wuhan, China, in 1992, 1994 and 1997, respectively. Prior to join ZJU, he worked as the Director of Beijing Dongfang Electronics Research Institute and the Deputy Chief Engineer of Dongfang Electronics Co., Ltd. His research interests include smart grid, intelligent information processing technology and its application in power system.

Prof. Xuemin Zhang

Xuemin Zhang became an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University in China, in 2011. She joined REALab in August 2014 as a visiting scholar. She obtained the B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in China, in 1997 and 2006, respectively. Her research interests include renewable energy integration, power system stability analysis, blackout risk assessment and control.

Professor Haiying Li

My name is Haiying Li and I will be a one-year visiting scholar from Sep 2013 to Sep 2014. My research is about situational awareness of smart grid.

Professor Suhua Lou

Suhua Lou joined the REALab in June 2013 as a visiting scholar. She is an associate professor with the College of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China. She obtained the B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from HUST, in 1996, 2001 and 2005, respectively. She was a visiting scholar with the Centre for Electrical Energy System, University of Hong Kong(HKU), Hong Kong, from May 2010 to September 2010. Her research interests include power system planning and optimizing operation, renewable energy generation integration into power grid, positioning of energy storage in power grid. She loves reading, playing badminton and ping-pang, and drinking Italian coffee.

Professor Kjetil Uhlen

Kjetil Uhlen is currently visiting researcher at University of Washington. He is professor in Power Systems at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, and a Special Adviser at STATNETT (the Norwegian Transmission System Operator). His main research interests are within power system operation and control, including integration of renewables and control of hybrid ac and dc networks. Recent focus has been on the development and implementation of synchrophasor (PMU) applications in power system monitoring and control. As special advisor at STATNETT, his main role has been to support implementation of R&D results into the operational environment. Kjetil Uhlen is member of CIGRE and IEEE (since 1993).

Marcel Chuma Cerbantes

Marcel Chuma Cerbantes received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), Ilha Solteira, Brazil, in 2010. He received his MSc with UNESP in 2012. He is currently pursuing the PhD degree with UNESP. Marcel is currently a 12 months visiting student at UWEE working with Dr. Miguel Ortega-Vazquez. His research interests are in the fields of planning and operation of distribution networks, power systems economics, renewable resources, metaheuristics, and smart grids.

Kenneth Brunnix

Kenneth Bruninx received the M.S. degree in energy engineering and the M.S. degree in management in 2011 and 2015 respectively from the Univeristy of Leuven (KU Leuven). Currently, he is working as a PhD-researcher at the University of Leuven Energy Institute, TME branch (energy conversion). In October and November 2015, Kenneth is a visiting phd student at UW working under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Kirschen. Kenneth's research interests revolve around power system economics and flexibility. In his work he explores how to optimally schedule flexibility resources -- e.g. load, generation and storage -- in order to improve overall power system performance, which is currently being challenged by constantly growing uncertainties, for example due to the rapid integration of renewable energy sources in the power system.

Yunfeng Wen

Yunfeng Wen joined the REALab in November 2012 as a visiting Ph.D student. He received his B. S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Sichuan University (SCU) in Chengdu, China in 2010. He is currently pursuing his Doctor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with the College of Electrical Engineering at Zhejiang University (ZJU), Hangzhou, China. His research interests include power system risk -based dispatch and optimal power flow with large-scale storages.

Tobias Haring

Tobias is a visiting PhD-student from ETH Zurich. Before he joined the Power Systems Laboratory at ETH Zurich in 2010, he received a M.A. in economics from the University of Graz (Austria) and a M.sc. in electrical engineering from Graz University of Technology (Austria). His fields of interests include optimization techniques, modeling and analysis, power systems economics and market design. He is Student Member of IEEE.

Matthias Bucher

Matthias Bucher joined the REALab in February 2015 as a visiting student. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering and information technology in 2011 from ETH Zurich, Switzerland, where he is currently pursuing the PhD degree at the Power Systems Laboratory. His research interest include modeling and optimization of operational flexibility in power systems.

Yang Wang

Yang Wang received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai, China, in 2011, now he is pursuing the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering of Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He was a visiting Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA, during the 2014-2015 academic year. His research interest includes maintenance scheduling and unit commitment.

Ricardo Fernandez-Blanco

Ricardo Fernandez-Blanco received the Ingeniero Industrial degree from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Ciudad Real, Spain, in 2009. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha. Ricardo is currently working at University of Washington with Prof. Miguel Ortega-Vazquez. His research interests are in the fields of power systems economics, bilevel programming, and electricity markets.

Iker Diaz de Cerio Mendaza

Iker Diaz de Cerio Mendaza is pursuing his PhD studies in the Energy Technology Department at Aalborg University. He received his MSc with University of Zaragoza in 2010 under the European program EUREC. Iker is currently a 6 months visiting student at UWEE working with Dr. Miguel Ortega-Vazquez. His fields of interests include demand response, demand side management, smart grids and power distribution network analysis. He is Student Member of IEEE.

Weiling Zhang

Weiling Zhang was a visiting student in the REALab from March 2014 to September 2014. She is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree at Tsinghua University. Her research includes system stability analysis and control by machine learning methods.

Yangwu Shen

Yangwu Shen joins the REALab in the Fall 2013 as a visting PH.D student. He comes from Hubei, China, and now he is pursuing his Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering at Wuhan University, China. His fields of interests include the energy storage system, wind power integration and applications of energy storage for the wind power operation in power systems.

Jingkun Liu

Jingkun Liu received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2012, now he is pursuing the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering of Tsinghua University. He is currently a 12-month visiting Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA, working with Prof. Daniel Kirschen. His research interest includes energy storage and power system reliability.

Victoria Guerrero Mestre

Victoria Guerrero Mestre received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering and M.Sc. degree in industrial engineering from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Ciudad Real, Spain, in 2013 and 2015, respectively, where she is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree. Her research interests are in the fields of stochastic programming, operation and economics of electric power systems, and electricity markets.

Jinjiang Zhang

Jinjiang Zhang joined REALab in August 2016 as a visiting scholar. He is an associate professor with the School of Automation and Electrical Engineering at Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, Hangzhou, China. He obtained Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2009. His research interests include renewable energy integration, intelligent information processing technology, risk assessment and control of power system with multi-factors interaction.

Leonardo H. Macedo

Leonardo H. Macedo joined the REALab in November 2016. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), Ilha Solteira, Brazil, in 2013 and 2015, respectively. He is now pursuing the Ph.D. degree with UNESP. Leonardo is currently a visiting student at UWEE working with Dr. Miguel Ortega-Vazquez. His research interests are in the fields of: transmission and distribution systems planning, operation, and control; mathematical modeling of power systems; optimization of transmission and distribution systems; theory and application of metaheuristics.

Agata Swierc

Agata Swierc is an Affiliate Assistant Professor in University of Washington since June 2016. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. degree from Silesian University of Technology in Poland. Her research interests lie in the area of renewable energy sources, efficiency, and storage analysis, design, modelling and optimization. In her spare time Agata enjoys hiking and cycling.

Yi Wang

Yi Wang received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China, in 2014, now he is pursuing the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering of Tsinghua University. He is currently a 13-month visiting Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA, working with Prof. Daniel Kirschen. His research interest includes smart meter data analytics, multiple energy systems.

Yaohua Cheng

Yaohua Cheng received the B.S. degree from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China in 2015. He is currently pursuing Ph.D. degree in Tsinghua University. His research interests include low-carbon electricity, power system planning and multiple energy systems.

Qingchun Hou

Qingchun Hou joined the REALab as a visiting Ph.D. student in August 2019, working with Prof. Daniel Kirschen. He is currently pursuing Ph.D. degree in Tsinghua University. He is particularly interested in power system operation and planning, data-driven analytics, and power system optimization. His current work focuses on power system operation and planning under high renewable energy penetration, especially using data-driven method. He received his B.S. degree from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China in 2016. In his free time in Seattle, Qingchun enjoys cycling, cooking, and reading.
