Project Overview

This page is dedicated to displaying the cable monitoring technology being developed at the University of Washington 's SEAL (Sensor, Energy, and Automation Laboratory) in the University of Washington Electrical Engineering department. The cable inspection project is one of many projects in the SEAL. The goal of this specific project is to develop an autonomous robot platform which is capable of detecting incipient faults in underground power cable systems.


In December 2006, members of the SEAL team traveled to New Orleans and successfully tested the current prototype of the robot at the Lockheed Martin Michoud NASA Assembly Facility.
